Tournament Gaming Returns to Toronto – ESC: The Elite Series
“ESC: The Elite Series” – September 22-23rd 2012 Toronto.
Produced by Sandbox Promotions, the July 28th event is the Grand Finals for the 2012 ESC E-Sports Championship Season. The event will be held at the Primrose Hotel. This is, in fact, the first full season for the ESC which has run qualifying events for 5 games over the past 5 months. The current roster of games are : Starcraft 2 , League of Legends, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, and Skullgirls.
Our Event, ESC: The Elite Series is being positioned as the first eSports League in Canada. We are looking to create a competitive gaming culture much the same way other leagues have impacted audiences around the world but have largely missed the Canadian audience. Our inaugural season begins in March and ends with the Grand Finals in July. The Grand Finals and convention is a celebration of competitive gaming and video game culture; we will be focusing on both the gameplay aspect of video games as well as the design, development, and production of video games in the industry. – James Bade, Project Coordinator
Toronto has long been the destination venue for gaming tournaments. The city has been the site of regional and national qualifier events for several major tournaments including the World Cyber Games, International Gamers League and the MLG. ESC, however, is the first league to headquarter in Toronto and truly align themselves with the Canadian Video Game Industry. This tournament is a sign that Toronto gamers still thirst for the thrill of competition and, hopefully we can see more homegrown tournament style games coming from our local studios.
