Canada The “Epicenter” Of Global Game Development?

According to Dead Rising 2 and Capcom’s head of R&D Keiji Inafune, it very well may be.

The legendary producer recently spoke with NowGamer and commented that Canada is “getting very important now…they’ve got potential to be at the epicenter of videogame development.”

Aurora Feint Unveils Android/ iPhone Cross-Platform Play

Mobile game multiplayer tech-maker Aurora Feint has unveiled a new cross-platform service known as OpenFeint Playtime, which will allow real-time online play between users of Apple’s iOS and Android-based devices.

The service, which will also feature real-time voice chat, follows hot on the heels of Apple’s confirmation that its Game Center will launch alongside its new range of hardware next week.

Cloud-Based Music & Video Service Coming To EU Sony Devices

On Wednesday Sony announced that Qriocity, a new cloud-based, subscription model service for music and video streaming, will be launching on several hardware devices later this year in Europe. Qriocity’s Video on Demand has been available in the US since April, but this year will also bring the launch of the music streaming service Music Unlimited.

Apple introduces the new MultiTouch iPod Nano

The Apple iPod, the thumbwheel and the white earphone cords have been synonymous with portable music and the urban lifestyle for years. The iPod Touch and iPhone changed that image for many but the Nano and iPod Mini remain tremendously popular due to their extreme portability. According to Apple, its time for a change. The iPod Nano, Multitouch was announced today at The Apple Live Music Event covered, live, on Gizmodo.

Fan Expo Panel: The State of the Local Video Game Industry

This past weekend Fan Expo 2010 took place at the Metro Toronto Convention Center. Amongst the cosplay cuties, comic book artists, celebrity signings, the occasional waft of b.o. and merchant stands, I somehow found the time to sit in on a few interesting panels. One such panel was the State of the Local Video Game Industry, a comprehensive and in-depth discussion about how the Toronto video game industry is stacking up and where it’s headed.

Monday Night Combat Gets Massive First Title Update

Uber Entertainment just announced on their official Monday Night Combat blog that they are in the process of testing the games first Title Update and will then hand it off for certification and hopefully into the hands of gamers as soon as possible.

Clearly the Uber team has been listening carefully to fans of MNC as there are a slew of changes and fixes that will be included in this TU.

This Week’s DLC (XBL)

This weeks XBL Deals of the Week carry a special alien theme, with three games coming out and one piece of DLC receiving a price cut, all of which revolve around aliens. With the exception of Zeno Clash, this weeks offering are little more than a bunch of “meh” titles. If you haven’t picked up Zeno Clash, it’s a steal at 800 MSP, but as for the rest, save your money and hold out for a better week of XBL DLC.

This Week’s DLC (PSN)

This week gamers are getting tons of love from the PSN – get your couch grooves ready – you’re going to be spending some serious time in it this week.

PlayStation Network

After what has seemed like an eternity, PS3 gamers will finally get their hands on arguably one of the best side-scrolling beat-em-up titles to be released in recent years as Designer Dan Paladin’s Castle Crashers makes its way to the PSN. Mark the day August 31st (Tuesday). In addition Castle Crashers will also come with a vollyball mini-game, where you can play locally or online. The demo will also be available for those still on the fence about purchasing it.

Hanging out at FanExpo 2010

FanExpo Canada opened today in Toronto, Canada and we were on hand to check out the comics and gaming scene.

The show opened to a massive crowd of avid fans of comics, gaming, anime, graphic art and horror fiction. FanExpo is a complete ComicCon style show that includes vendor booths, displays, movie screenings, graphic art exhibitions, Q&A and autograph sessions with the some of the biggest names in the biz including Stan Lee, Adam West, Burt Ward, Michaeal Dorn to name but a few. The Graphic Art sessions provide an opportunity for fans to meet and interact with dozens of seasoned veterans as well as the new rising stars in the comic and graphic novel scene.
